Social Success Makeover
Finishing School for Adults

"For most of us, the biggest sale we'll ever make is selling OURSELVES...and the most important  customer you'll ever have is you. Because you'll have the confidence to live your bigger life."   - Janine Driver

What does it mean to be a social success?  It means you are able to achieve a favorable or desired outcome in your interactions with others. Simply put, it means you are a success in both your personal and professional life.

And what does it take be a social success? "I believe it takes polish, poise and presence, along with a high regard for others, and impeccable manners," says Patricia  Napier-Fitzpatrick, Founder of The Etiquette School of New York." Or, to put it another way, it takes a certain savoir faire combined with a unique sense of style and a desire to succeed."

Did you know you only have five seconds to make a good first impression? First impressions are powerful. We can't escape the fact that image and appearance are important when meeting someone for the first time. In fact, 93% of a first impression is nonverbal.

Appearance counts for 55% of the impression we make. Your looks may be the first impression a stranger has about you, so they play a greater role at a first meeting than at later meetings.

Before you speak a word, your clothes have already spoken volumes about you. The first impression is made in only seconds, and  yet it may follow you indefinitely. "Keep it simple! You'll never go wrong in clothing with classic colors and clean lines." advises Town & Country magazine in the September issue.

You don't have to be thin or good-looking to look good. Beauty is nice, but confidence trumps. If you are poised and confident, you will come across more postively than if you are uncomfortable with yourself or your appearance.

The attitude you project, both verbally and non-verbally, is the next most important factor in a first impression; it counts for 38%. Attitude begins on the inside and shows on the outside. If you have a postive attitude about yourself and others, it will be evident in the way you carry youself and the tone of your voice.

Did you know your abilities may be judged by a three- second handshake? A firm handshake conveys confidence, assurance, interest and respect.  According to Dorothea Johnson, "It is a vital, if usually subconscious, part of creating a first impression and sending a parting message." How would you rate your handshake?

And lastly, research shows that what you actually say is the least important factor in a first impression--only 7% of the impression you make.

A good first impression gets you in the door , but as I am sure you know, style without substance will only take you so far. In our SOCIAL SUCCESS MAKEOVERS, we will explore all of the essentials necessary to be successful in your interactions with other people.
