Etiquette Workshops for Schools
For Good Manners and Excellent Social Skills

Social skills are the great equalizer; good social skills transcend social class, economic status, achievement and race. Studies at Harvard University, the Stanford Research Institute, and the Carneigie Foundation support this statement, finding that 85% of future success depends on social skills.

THE ETIQUETTE SCHOOL OF NEW YORK in Manhattan has developed a series of fun, interactive etiquette workshops to teach children the rules of etiquette that can help them build lifelong social skills, character and self-esteem. Our workshops can utilized on a single basis, or in total for a unique and educational after-school program.

Goals of The Etiquette School of  New York's Workshops for Schools:

         1. To create polite, well-mannered students.

         2. To teach students the rules of basic etiquette and good manners.

         3. To promote kind and considerate behavior toward others.

         4. To teach students the skills they need to become leaders.

         5. To help students understand how manners guide them through all of their daily activities.

         6. To help students appreciate their good points and concentrate on fully developing them.

         7. To develop the students' confidence in their own knowledge and ability to handle new or challenging situations.

                                        ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WORKSHOPS

       I.    EVERYDAY BASIC ETIQUETTE

This workshop introduces children to the importance of having good manners and how using good manners will improve their relationships with their friends, family and teachers. We will cover basic rules of etiquette, making good impressions, greetings and introductions, conversation and listening skills, and being kind and considerate to all.

       II.    SCHOOL LIFE MANNERS

Whether they are in the classroom, halls or lunchroom, there are rules of conduct that will help them successfully navigate their way through the school day. This workshop will address greetings to classmates and teachers, classroom manners, leadship skills, social manners outside the classroom, lunchroom manners and getting-to-and-from school manners.

       III.   PLAYTIME MANNERS

Good manners make good friends. This workshop covers playgound manners, play date and sleepover manners, host and hostess duties, showing kindness and respect for friends, family, property and pets, gracious giving and receiving, thank-you notes and more.

IV.   COMMUNICATION MANNERS- WRITTEN AND TECHNO

This workshop will address all of the ways in which we communicate with each other, and the most effective and well-mannered way to do so. We will cover presentation skills, letter writing, thank-you notes, addressing envelopes, titles, e-mails, how to properly place and answer telephone calls, as well as cell-phone etiquette.

       V.   OUT-AND-ABOUT AND ON-THE-GO MANNERS

Children spend as much time in the public as they do at shcool and at home, and therefore, it is important for them to know how to conduct themselves when they are out. This workshop will address courtesy and respect for neighbors, respect for other people's property, mall manners, sidewalk manners, how to behave at the movies, live performances, museums, churches and libraries, how to be a courteous traveler, and the dos and don'ts of sports etiquette.

      VI/VII.TABLE MANNERS AND DINING SKILLS

Due to the fact that so few families sit down together at meals, children do not have the chance to learn and practice dining skills. These workshops will cover the ABC's of table manners, understanding place settings, the four uses of the napkin, passing food at the table, posture at the table, conversation at the table, how to correctly hold and use a knife and fork, American versus Continental styles of dining, how to deal with unwanted food and how to properly set the table, as well as other dining issues.

VIII. REVIEW AND DISCUSSION WITH TEACHERS AND/OR PARENTS

Recommended ages: 5 to 12 years old
